The publication Sign Language as a Bridge consists of 163 pages and contains English-Bosnian and English-Croatian language versions.

The publication was developed as part of an international project supported by the International Visegrad Fund (Visegrad Fund) and builds on cooperation between organizations from the V4 countries and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The publication focuses on the importance of sign language as a means of communication, understanding, and social inclusion of deaf people.

Five deaf authors contributed to the publication – one from the Czech Republic, two from Slovakia, and two from Hungary. The authors jointly participated in missions in six cities across Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The publication presents methodological approaches to working with sign language and addresses interpreting ethics, issues of identity, and the social community of deaf people. It also includes analytical reports and visual materials resulting from the activities carried out and from international cooperation.

The publication also has practical value for partner organizations in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Part of the print run will be provided to these organizations so that they can use the publication in developing methodologies, education and training activities, lecturing, and the development of interpreting services for deaf people.

The publication also contains demographic and graphical overviews of the situation of deaf people in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which can serve as useful background information for relevant institutions and authorities and support their further work at the level of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The publication is intended for professionals, interpreters, educators, deaf people’s organizations, and the general public interested in issues concerning deaf people.
